A KEVIN HILL "TOP TEN" GUEST ARTIST
Eric McCormick has lived in a pastoral environment most of his working life. He began painting when he moved to Broken Hill in 1980 and by 1985 was exhibiting and selling work.
An impressionist, his technique gives a visual, experience associated with a particular moment of time, en plein air or in the studio. He travels widely in search o f subject matter and is equally at home with urban scenes. Works in all painting media with a preference for oil, which is applied impasto mostly with a palette knife. The subject reflects the response to the harsh beauty and starkness of the outback. The surface becomes almost sculptural, and three dimensional, with textured buildup and surface manipulation. A direct response to a weathered, crusty landscape. It is the pervasive theme that is sought to remind the viewing public of the enduring permanence o f the natural environment.
Travel has made a strong impact on his work, showing exceptional skills of draftsmanship. He has become increasingly recognized as a master of the Australian Landscape.
He is represented in public, corporate and private galleries nationally and internationally
