Picture of artist name PAUL MARGOCSY

A KEVIN HILL "TOP TEN" ARTIST

Paul was born in Melbourne in August 1945. He had no formal art training but developed a love for painting at an early age. He worked as a window dresser at Myers Melbourne before going to England and Europe for three years, where he diversed into painting children’s fantasy wall murals and fashion murals for exclusive hairdressing salons in London.

In 1978 he became engrossed in wildlife art and concentrated on improving his technique. His paintings began to sell in various shows, thus leading to several outstanding exhibitions in south Australia, Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne.

In 1985 he became a member of ‘The Wildlife Art Society of Australasia’. The following year he won the award for the best painting at their exhibition and a year later, won the best watercolour exhibit.

Paul was included in a book released in 1990 presenting 70 of the best living traditional realist artists in Australia. Australia Post commissioned him in 1991 for a stamp issue on waterbirds and also by The United Nations in 1994 for an endangered species series, which was released in Vienna.

Along with 4 other Australian artists, Paul had a successful exhibition in London in 1991 leading to a follow-up exhibition where he was the feature artist at the Omell galleries, London in 1992/93

In 1994 he released a book depicting many of his beautiful works. That year he also had his first solo exhibition in Wisconsin, USA which led to two further solo exhibitions. That same year he won the prestigious award of best overall painting at “The Wildlife Art Society of Australia” show in Melbourne.

Paul was the only Australian artist to be chosen for two consecutive years to exhibit in the highly acclaimed Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum’s, “Birds in Art” exhibition in America, making him one of only three Australian to be selected in the last 20 years. This exhibition attracts over 3,500 wildlife artists from all over the world. Only 80 paintings from all of these works are selected to be hung.

In 1996/97 Paul was successful in Osaka Japan with a solo exhibition and also exhibited at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore 19996 and 1998.

Ian has been an exhibitor with Kevin Hill’s “TOP TEN” Australian Artists since 2002

Being married with two children together with his painting makes Paul’s life complete.

Paul and his works have been included in the last two editions of Kevin Hill’s “TOP TEN” Australian Artists books.
