A KEVIN HILL "LIVING LEGEND TOP TEN" ARTISTS
Kevin Best was born at Hamilton, NSW, 27th January 1932 and 30 years ago took the lifestyle step that took him from the stock market to become a full time professional artist. This decision has seen him rise to become one of the most successful artists in Australia today. His creative talent has won him many awards and high acclaim throughout our country.
Kevin Best developed an intense love for drawing at an early age and still has sketches of warships and aircraft that he did during the war years. He joined the boy scouts and this was to have a tremendous effect on his life, but not for thirty years. Camping and hiking in the bush, he developed a deep insight into nature and this is now evident in his paintings. Kevin now travels to popular places as well as almost untouched areas of great beauty and atmosphere. He relates to the locals and lives with the surroundings.
Character and wit are part of Kevin's natural creative ability and his titles and subjects play mute testimony to that. This aspect apart, Kevin’s real talent is with his brush. The way he bares our countries soul with his paintings, the way the blue hazes of light streak through the gum trees onto a trickling mountain stream - The dusty muster of the outback - A wave crashing onto a long clean sandy beach. His magnificent paintings transport us back to younger days and wonderful childhood memories. These images of our lifestyle and heritage have brought a "new wave" of pride to Australians.
"Looking back over the last 30 years, I reckon I'm the happiest man alive. I have a wonderful wife a great family and I do what I really love to do…Paint; and people actually pay me for it! We in Australia are blessed with a beautiful country and an endless variety of scenic beauty with a climate to match. To attempt to depict it in paint has been my greatest privilege.
Th artist Kevin Best is not obsessed with just one facet of the landscape and finds he is constantly striving to capture the mood, light, atmosphere and life that the ever changing Australian landscape presents – Through the snow, rivers, surf, gum trees, rocks and the contrasting colours.
Although self taught, Kevin Best feels the greatest teacher of art is nature. He is a unique individual and the paintings reflect the man. Kevin was honoured by the Australian Government with an OAM On The 26th January 2005 For His Services To Art. On the 20th September 2008 Kevin was voted by his peers as the first Kevin Hill Living legend TOP TEN Australian Artist
his work is reproduced as cards, prints, limited edition prints and books. Kevin and his works have been included in all 4 editions of Kevin Hill’s “TOP TEN” Australian Artists books.
